A local business isn’t appearing when I type in their industry on my software. Why is this happening?
There a few reasons this may be the case and they are listed below - in any of these cases you will want to search multiple industries and/or try typing in the business name directly:
- When a business files a business license or "doing business as" under a different name than what they use publicly.
- A business may have filed themselves under a different industry.
- It is a new business and will appear in the next or following data update once it has been verified by our data vendors.
ex: similar industries can be listed in coffee shops, cafes, café shops, diners
A Local business that has recently opened/closed is not appearing/appearing on the software.
Our data vendors have various ways of verifying if a business has been open or closed. Once a business has been verified it will be inputted into the system, and will depending on when the update the information it will get updated in our system which could take anywhere between 3-6 months. In rare instances 9 months.
If you discover there is a business that has been closed for a significant period of time you can submit a request with us here: Submit a request or create a login and use our "submit suggestion" button directly in the application.
note: the "submit suggestion" button will only appear if you use a login.
Can I export the data?
Yes, by clicking the green colored PDF button. This button appears in all modules and will generate a report for your inputs in the active module. If an organization in your community has purchased the "[insert tool name]" than You can obtain a CSV file that exports [insert amount of data]
In the My Business module when I choose my desired industry it does not show data at the city level. Why might this be?
The scale at which an industry is displayed varies depending on the statistical significance of that industry within a chosen geography. Therefore the scale that is displayed is based on the amount of small businesses in a chosen industry in a given geography. It is not based on the size of an individual small business in a particular industry.
For example if Pizza was the selected industry and the county/city/town selected only has 1 establishment that is in the Pizza industry then it would be the sole metric and therefore not a sufficient indicator of an industry. Therefore the scale will be expanded to the county, metro, state, and finally national scale to find enough businesses within the pizza industry to compare that industry to.
