The SizeUp Software is a powerful tool in your economic development arsenal. However, if your community doesn’t know it exists, that makes it hard to be useful. Most times organizations with economic development goals and objectives don’t have the resources or expertise to implement the best practices so we’ve outlined a few best practices that are simple and easy to implement. Below the low hanging fruit implementations, we’ve also included items that are slightly more involved. Items in blue are provided by SizeUp, simply email your Customer Success Team.
Low hanging fruit/easy implementation :
Website Navigation – Making the navigation intuitive for the target audience is crucial.
- Placement - place the software where it's easy to find. This typically works best when it's immediately visible on a home page, or relevant navigation such as "Entrepreneurship," "Retention and Expansion," "Site Selection," "Area Characteristics,"
- Naming - Refer to the SizeUp software as something intuitive for your community such as “Small Business Support Tool,” "Small business resource tool," "Analytic tool for [insert city, county, name],"etc.
URLs
- Shortened URLs - Use shortened and easy to use URLs where you can. This makes it easier to promote and share
Link it, link it, link it
- Link multiple areas - SizeUp provides multiple services and therefore is relevant to be linked in various spots on your website. Ex: it's relevant to link SizeUp in areas such as "Entrepreneurship" "Retention & Expansion" "Site Selection" for multiple ways to help businesses and different business audiences
- Link affiliate organizations - Have organizations you're associated with that interact with or are small businesses link it, link it, link it
Medium hanging fruit/medium effort implementation
Landing pages - using a landing page with template language and graphics does a number of things
- Additional context - Sets up a buffer page that primes the user for what the software is and what it will do for them
- Consistency - Creates consistent language and graphics that can be shared amongst partner organizations
Promote the software to:
- Your partners - they can copy the landing page or simply have them link (with shortened URL) to the tool on their site Landing page Ex: https://business.delaware.gov/sizeup-delaware/
- Social Media - Quick videos under a minute do very well.
- Local media - distribute press releases, flyers, and/or videos so they can promote.
- Incentive programs - Make SizeUp reports a requirement for applications of financial or technical assistance programs.
